Why Cammy Barnes was one of the festival’s’s most anticipated Scottish stars.
TRNSMT 2026 brought another stellar weekend of music to Glasgow Green, with major headline performances from some of the UK’s biggest names.
Yet, among the festival’s most eagerly anticipated Scottish artists was Cammy Barnes, the Fife singer-songwriter whose rise over the past three years has been one of Scotland’s most compelling music success stories.
Barnes took to the main stage on the opening day of the festival, a significant milestone in a journey that has seen him evolve from local barber and touring musician to one of the country’s fastest-growing live acts. His appearance at TRNSMT reflected not only his growing popularity but also the deep connection he has forged with Scottish audiences.
The connection with audiences stems from a career built on authenticity, hard work and a determination to pursue music on his own terms. Long before he was selling-out venues, he was balancing his musical ambitions with running his own barber shop in Fife, Scotland.
Barnes studied at Fife College, which helped him enormously in his later life. “My time at the college was a game-changer.” The experience gave him practical skills but also the confidence to pursue opportunities that otherwise may have stayed out of reach. “Having those qualifications gave me the freedom to take risks and follow my dreams”.
That willingness to take risks would ultimately define his career. After years performing with the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and touring internationally, Barnes decided to pursue a solo path, blending country influences with Scottish storytelling and instrumentation. The result has resonated with audiences across Scotland and beyond.
One of the defining moments came in 2023 when he appeared on Britain’s Got Talent. The experience introduced him to national television, and he got a standing ovation from the audience. “It was a very overwhelming and emotional moment and one that I will never forget,” he recalls.
The exposure to television accelerated an already positive career. But, it is his live performances that have truly cemented his reputation. By 2026, he had become a familiar face at major Scottish events and was regularly performing to thousands of fans.
Earlier this year, he sold out at Glasgow’s legendary Barrowland Ballroom, a venue regarded by many artists as a career-defining stage. His cross-over blend of contemporary country music with unmistakable Scottish influences captivate his fans. That combination made him a perfect fit for TRNSMT 2026. The festival has always prided itself on showcasing Scottish talent alongside international stars, and Barnes embodied the kind of artist the event seeks to champion. He is absolutely rooted in Scotland, but connects with audiences beyond the borders.
Despite his success, Barnes continues to speak with grounded perspective that has endeared him to fans. Looking to the future, he reflects “It’s been a wild ride, but there’s still so much I’m excited to get stuck into. I’m really excited about what’s coming next in my career.”
For the thousands who watched and appreciated him perform at TRNSMT 2026, the future certainly looks increasingly bright for Cammy Barnes.
